Public awareness for enforcement of Jute Packaging Act stressed

RANGPUR, Feb 17, 2020 (BSS) – Creating public awareness has become imperative to ensuring strict enforcement of the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act, 2010 to revive the past glory of jute, boost the industry and protect the environment from pollution.

Officials and experts today viewed this at an orientation meeting on ‘The
Mandatory Jute Packaging Act, 2010 and its Implementation Policy, 2013′ held
at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office .

Rangpur office of the Jute Department and district administration jointly
organised the event for jute farmers and traders, officials and other
stakeholders.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan attended the meeting as the chief guest
with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir in the chair.

President of Rangpur district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and President
of Rangpur District Jute Farmers’ Association Abdul Wahab spoke as special
guests.

Assistant Director of the Department of Jute for Rangpur Saifur Rahman
delivered the welcome speech discussing different aspects of the Mandatory
Jute Packaging Act, 2010 and its Implementation Policy, 2013 and enforcement
in January 2014 .

The participants stressed on conducting combing operation against polythene
usage for successful execution of the Act that has made the use of jute bags
in packing food stuffs, farm products and some other goods mandatory.

They called upon the district administrations and other departments and
authorities concerned for creating mass public awareness and working united
ways for strict enforcement of the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act.

The chief guest put importance on creating awareness among the producers,
buyers and sellers of food products and common people to ensure use of jute
bags in packaging paddy, rice, wheat, maze, fertilizer, sugar and other
goods.

“We have to work sincerely to ensure use of jute bags and sacks in
packaging all those products as directed by the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act,
2010 to develop our jute industry and save the environment,” he said.
