Janaza of Rahmat Ali held at JS complex

DHAKA, Feb 16, 2020 (BSS) – The namaz-e-janaza of Awami League Advisory Council Member and former state minister for LGRD Advocate Rahmat Ali was held at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Braban here today.

Political leaders, cabinet members, leaders of the 14-party alliance, members of parliament, eminent personalities and officers and employees of JS attended the janaza.

President M Abdul Hamid’s military secretary, on behalf of the head of the state, placed wreath on the coffin of freedom fighter Rahmat, also an ex-Awami League lawmaker from Gazipur-3 constituency.

Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to him by placing wreaths on his coffin.

After placing the wreath, the premier stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Rahmat.

Flanked by senior leaders and parliament members of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League President, laid another wreath on the coffin on behalf of the party.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowhdury Liton and other whips also paid homage to Rahmat by laying wreaths.

On the behalf of opposition leader in parliament, whip as well as Jatiya Party lawmaker Pir Fazlur Rahman Misbah also paid tributes to the late MP by placing wreath on his coffin.

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, AL Advisory Council member Tofail Ahmed, Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Industries Amir Hossain Amu, Liberation War Affairs Minister AK M Mozammel Haque, Railway Minister M Nurul Islam Sujan, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, State Minister for Shipping Ministry Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, senior leaders of different political parties and officials and employees of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban attended the janaza.

Earlier, on behalf of Dhaka district administration, a guard of honor was given.

JS Whip Iqbalur Rahim and Liberation War Affairs Minister AK M Mozammel Haque briefly spoke before the namaz-e-janaza.

A munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed soul was offered after the janaza.

Prime Minister and Speaker of the parliament were present during the munajat.

Rahmat Ali died at a city hospital this morning at the age of 76.
