Dr Wazed’s 79th birthday tomorrow

RANGPUR, Feb 15, 2020 (BSS) – The 79th birthday of internationally reputed
nuclear scientist and Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr MA Wazed Miah
will be observed tomorrow in a befitting manner.

On February 16 in 1942, Wazed Miah affectionately called ‘Sudha Miah’ was
born in a respectable Muslim family of Laldighi Fatehpur village under
Pirganj upazila in Rangpur district.

He breathed his last in Dhaka on May 9, 2009 and was buried at the family
graveyard in his native village at Pirganj.

Different socio-cultural organisations and the family members of Dr Wazed
will celebrate the birthday of the nuclear scientist in a befitting manner in
the capital city and Rangpur district.

Dr Wazed Research and Training Institute of Begum Rokeya University, Dr
Wazed Smriti Sangshad (DWSS) of Rangpur, District and Upazila administration,
District and Upazila Police Administration, Pirganj upazila unit of Awami
League (AL), MA Wazed Foundation, 14-party alliances, various social and
professional organisations will mark the day arranging elaborate programmes.

The programmes include placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed Miah,
offering Fateha, milad mehfils and special munajats, distribution of food
among the poor and distressed people and holding memorial discussions.

A number of organisations have chalked out elaborate daylong programmes to
celebrate the birthday of Dr Wazed at Laldighee Fatehpur village as well as
in Rangpur city.

Wazed Miah’s nephew and also Pirganj upazila AL General Secretary Tajimul
Islam Shamim told BSS that upazila unit of AL and MA Wazed Foundation,
Pirganj will jointly arrange a discussion, doa and milad at Fatehpur Joysadan
at noon to mark the 79th birthday of the nuclear scientist.

Registrar of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal
said the teachers, students, officials, and staff of the concerned university
led by BRUR Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Major Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah will
pay homage to Dr Wazed by placing wreaths at his grave in the morning and
Fateha along with Munajat will be offered there.

Prayers and milad will also be held at the university’s central jam-e-
masjid at noon.

The authorities of District Administration led by Deputy Commissioner Asib
Ahsan will pay tributes to Dr Wazed by placing wreaths at his grave in the
morning, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer TMA Momin.

On February 16, leaders of the DWSS will place wreaths at the grave of Dr
Wazed Miah, arrange Ziarat and offer Fateha in his birthplace of Laldighee
Fatehpur village under Pirganj upazila.

Milad and doa mahfils will be arranged and special munajats will be
offered at different mosques after Asr prayers seeking eternal peace for the
departed soul of Dr Wazed and well-being of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed Putul and their other family members.
