BB, IFC sign deal for women entrepreneurs’ access to finance

DHAKA, August 9, 2017 (BSS) – Bangladesh Bank (BB) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) today inked a cooperation agreement for a project to develop a credit guarantee schemes for women entrepreneurs.

BB Joint Director of SME and Special Programmes Department (SPD) Nawshad Mustafa and IFC Country Director Wendy J Werner signed the agreement for the project titled “Catalyzing Access to Finance for Women Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh” on behalf of their respective sides, said a press release here today.

BB Deputy Governor Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury attended the signing ceremony as the chief guest. BB SME and SPD General Manager Shaikh M Salim delivered the welcome speech while Project Manager of the World Bank Neeraj Verma and Practice Manager of the World Bank Douglas Pearce were present on the occasion.

Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury spoke about the activities taken of Bangladesh Bank for the development of women entrepreneurs.

He highlighted many key feathers of the project and wished it a grand success. The proposed project is basically designed to provide technical assistance to SME and SPD in order to develop a credit guarantee scheme for women entrepreneurs of Bangladesh.

Besides, employees of SME and SPD will get training in order to increase their capacity building.

Awareness creation program related to credit guarantee schemes for women entrepreneurs will also be conducted though the project.
