Shahriar rules out any possibility of AL’s unity with BNP-Jamaat
SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 13, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam today ruled out any possibility of unity between Awami League (AL) and BNP-Jamaat, saying that BNP-Jamaat’s hands are stained with the blood of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“Yesterday a BNP lawmaker said that President in his speech has called for unity. Obviously, the President has called for unity. But it (unity) can never be between Awami League and BNP-Jamaat as their hands are stained with the blood of Father of the Nation,” he said.
The state minister made the remarks while taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion on President’s January 9 address to the House with Deputy Speaker M Fazle Rabbi Miah in the chair.
Coming down heavily on BNP-Jamaat for killing and torturing thousands of AL leaders and activists when they were in the state power, Shahriar showed some pictures of repression and torture on AL-men during the BNP-Jamaat regime from 2001-2006.
Pointing that the BNP-Jamaat government had destroyed the friendly relations with most of the countries making huge diplomatic blunders, the state minister said, “We are working to regain our lost heritage (good relations with other nations) under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina since 2009”.
The premier is being praised everywhere in the globe, including in the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU) and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), for her dynamic leadership, he said, adding that Bangladesh has become role model for development in the world in all sectors, including economic, women empowerment, reducing infant mortality rate and promoting women sports.
Awami League lawmakers AKM Shajahan Kamal, Md Aslam Hossain Sowdagar, Shamima Akter Khanam, Kazi Keramat Ali, Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, M A Matin, Md Hasibur Rahman Swapon, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Selima Ahmad, M Abdul Latif and Abu Reza Mohammad Nezam Uddin Nadwi, Jatiya Party lawmaker and Opposition Chief Whip Md Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Bangladesh Nationalist Party lawmaker Md Mosharraf Hosen, Bangladesh Workers Party lawmaker Fazle Hossain Badsha, Gano Forum lawmaker Mukabbir Khan and Bangladesh Tarikat Federation lawmaker Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandary also took part in the discussion.
Taking part in the discussion, Opposition Chief Whip Md Mashiur Rahman Ranga praised the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for setting up instance of unprecedented development across the country in the last 11 years.
“The President’s 163-page speech is not enough for projecting all the development activities and achievements of the government in the last 11 years. It requires more and more pages,” he said, thanking the President for highlighting the development activities and achievements of the government in his precise speech.
Ranga also said it is good news for the nation that the ruling and all opposition parties are going to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman together for the first time, shunning all differences among them.
The other lawmakers, taking part in the discussion, thanked the President for his time-befitting speech, saying that President Abdul Hamid in his 163-page speech has projected the government’s success in all sectors in the last 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and outlined the government’s future plans for transforming the country into a developed and prosperous one by 2041.
Highlighting the President’s speech on the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the lawmakers said celebration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will remain as a milestone in the country’s history.
The lawmakers congratulated the Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket Team for clinching the ICC Under-19 World Cup trophy recently for the first time ever in the history of the country’s sports in any format.
Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his sacrifice and contribution to establish an independent Bangladesh.
They also paid rich tributes to the national four leaders and martyrs of the 1975 carnage and the Language Movement.
