Momen urges US to give duty-free facility for cotton-made RMGs

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2020 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen today urged the United States (US) to give duty-free market access of Bangladesh ready-made garments (RMGs) made of imported US-cotton.

“I urge the US to give duty-free facility for Bangladesh RMGs made of imported US-cotton,” he told a luncheon programme organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) at a city hotel.

Momen said several Caribbean countries are enjoying duty-free access to their products to US markets, adding: “We want such duty-free facility for Bangladesh RMGs to US markets.”

The neighbouring country China is very much keen to invest in Bangladesh, but the process in this regard is slow, he said.

Expecting huge amount of investment in the country, he said, Bangladesh is seeking investment from different countries instead of a particular one foreign country.

Momen urged the US and European Union to increase their investment in the country as Bangladesh government offer huge facilities in different sectors.

With AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by AmCham Vice-President Syed Mohammad Kamal and US Embassy’s political and economic affairs counselor Brent T Christensen.
