DHAKA, Feb 13, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today expressed his optimism that the country’s film industry will witness a come-back of its golden era within the shortest possible time as the government has been implementing different measures to modernize the industry.
“I believe the whole canvas of county’s film industry will get changed within two years and it will get back its golden days,” Hasan told the closing ceremony of a film festival on Dhaka University (DU) campus this evening.
Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) arranged the 19th ‘Amar Bhasar Chalachitra Festival’ on the premises of Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on DU campus.
Dr Hasan said the government is leaving no stone unturned to make the country’s film industry a world class filmdom to ensure access of Bangladeshi films to global film market.
He said the country’s film industry has already overcome it’s barren period as quality films are being produced now. Presently many films are drawing huge viewers, who once kept themselves away from cinema halls, he added.
The minister said the country witnessed closure of many single screen cinema halls but the number of Cineplex with modern facilities is increasing gradually.
Four Cineplex halls were built in the capital and two in Chattogram while four more halls will be built within next couple of years in the capital, he added.
The minister said film depicts the people’s life and it acts as a mirror of society
“We can know about the lifestyle of people of hundred years back through film and people will come to know about our lifestyle and culture after hundred years through film” he mentioned.
Extending his thanks to the DUFS for arranging the festival, the minister distributed awards among the winners.
This year, the film ‘Alpha’ directed by Nasiruddin Yousuff received both of Hiralal Sen Padak-1426 in the Best Film category and in the cinematography while Tauquir Ahmed’s ‘Fagun Haway’ received the award in best story category.
The five-day film festival featured screening of a total of 22 films comprising 19 full length feature films and three short films.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, film director Syed Salahuddin Zaki, DUFS president Ferdous Khan Nirjhor and general secretary BM Jogli Rahmat, among others, were present on the occasion.
DUFS has been organising the film festival every year with the slogan ‘Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak’ since 2000 marking the International Mother Language Day.
