RANGPUR, Feb 11, 2020 (BSS) – Day-long programmes have been taken to observe the death anniversary of the spiritual poet of the Middle Ages Heyat Mamud at
his birthplace village Jharbishla in Pirganj upazila of the district on February 18 .
The district administration finalized the programmes in a preparatory meeting held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner this afternoon with Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan in the chair.
Deputy Director (Local Government) of Rangpur Syed Farhad Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shukria Pervin, Senior District Information Officer Md. Humayun Kobir, Assistant Director of Islamic
Foundation for Rangpur Shamsul Haque and Principal of Jharbishla Hayatul Ulum
Alim Madrasa Abdus Salek Sarker addressed.
The programmes include ‘Qur’an Khwani`, ‘Mazar Ziarat’, milad ‘Waz’
mahfil, mahfil, recitation of Hamd and Naats and poems, essay competition for
students and discussion meetings
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP is likely to
attend the anniversary programmes as the chief guest.
Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Government Begum Rokeya
College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam will present keynote speech on
“Spiritual Thoughts of Kobi Heyat Mamud” .
Talking to BSS this evening, Professor Alam said famous spiritual poet Kobi
Heyat Mamud contributed a lot to the Bengali literature of that time and
humanism in the sub-continent.
“The ideas expressed by the great poet through his unparalleled literary
works some 350 years ago helped to develop the modern Bengali literature by
bridging the literature of ancient times with modern literature,” Alam added.
The famous literary works of Heyat Mamud include ‘Jongonama or Moharram
Porbo’, ‘Sorboved Bani’, ‘Hitgyan Bani’ and ‘Ambia Bani’, he said, adding
that these literary works still bear the testimony important values for the
present and future of the civilized humanity.
The death anniversary of Kobi Heyat Mamud is being officially observed
since 2004 on the day as hundreds of his followers assemble at Jharbishla
village which also coincides celebration of ‘Urs Mubarak’ for centuries.
