Lawmakers terms supplementary budget as boosting economy to take country forward

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 10, 2018 (BSS) – Lawmakers
participating in the supplementary budget discussion
in the parliament today said the current budget for
2017-18 fiscal not only boosting the economy but
also taking the country forward and building the
Sonar Bangla dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman.

At the same time, they said the mega budget also
playing a significant role by maintaining the
continuity of development and helping transform the
country into a developed one by 2041.

Taking part in the general discussion on the
supplementary budget for the first day in the house,
senior parliamentarian Professor Ali Ashraf said the
current mega budget is pro-people as Awami League
always ensure common people’s interest.

He discussed the backdrop of the supplementary
budget slashing allocations in different sectors and
hoped that after implementation of the current
budget the country would not only progress to a
middle-income country by 2021, adding, “We would
build a happy, prosperous, pollution-free and
developed country under the leadership of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

Treasury bench member Ramesh Chandra Sen, opposition
bench members Kazi Feroz Rashid, Peer Fazlur Rahman,
Nurul Islam Omar, independent lawmaker Rustom Ali
Farazi, also took part in the general discussion on
supplementary budget.

Earlier, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on
June 7 placed a Taka 4,645.73 billion national
budget for 2018-19 fiscal setting the GDP growth
target at 7.8 percent and detailing a set of
programmes to transform the country into a role
model of modern and welfare state by 2041.

The sitting of the Jatiya Sangsad resumed at 11.02
am today with Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury
in the chair. The session was adjourned at 1.36 pm
and resume at 10.30 am tomorrow.
