Mild heat wave sweeping over parts of country

DHAKA, June 10, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in
a weather forecast today said a mild heat wave is sweeping over the regions
of Jashore, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Bogura, Dinajpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet and it
is likely to abate in 24 hours as of 9 am tomorrow.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty
or squally wind and lightning flashes are likely to occur at most places over
Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at
many places over Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions during the period,” the
forecast added.

Moreover, some places in Dhaka, Sylhet, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram
divisions may see moderately heavy to very heavy falls in next 24-hours
commencing 9 am today while day and night temperature may fall by (1-3)
degrees Celsius over the country.

Southwest monsoon has set on over Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Dhaka
divisions. The well marked low over North Bay and adjoining area now lies
over Northeast Bay and adjoining Chittagong and Noakhali Coast as it is
likely to intensify further and move in a North or Northeasterly direction,
it continued.

The maximum temperature was recorded 37.4 degrees Celsius yesterday at
Jashore in Khulna division and today’s minimum temperature 24.0 degrees
celsius at Rangamati in Chattogram division.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 94
mm at Cox’s Bazar.

The sunsets at 6.46 pm today and rises at 5.10 am tomorrow in the capital
city.
