DHAKA, Feb 1, 2020 (BSS)- Opener Tamim Iqbal struck a brilliant double
century as Islami Bank East Zone kept them aloft over Walton Central Zone in the first round of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

At the end of the day two game, East Zone reached 395-2 with Tamim Iqbal batting on 222, his career-best knock so far after hitting his second first class double century. Along with him, Yasir Ali was on 22.

Skipper Mominul Haque made 111 off 195, hitting a dozen of boundaries and one six.

Thanks to Tamim and Mominul, East Zone bolstered their position by taking
182 runs lead over Central Zone who was bowled out for 213 in its first
innings on day one.

Tamim and his fellow opener Pinak Ghosh combined for a 62-run for the
opening stand to give the side a decent start after which the latter was
dismissed for 26. But the joy of Central Zone bowlers was short-lived as
Tamim and Mominul Haque further punished them to add 296-run for the second
wicket stand and took the side in a position of dominance.

Central Zone’s lackluster bowling also made their task easier. Fast bowler
Mukidul Islam Mugdho, however, broke the partnership by removing Mominul.

But Tamim kept ticking the scoreboard with utmost confidence-converted his
16th first class century to his second double century and went past his
highest first class score of 206, which he scored against Pakistan in 2015.

By the end of the day, he smashed 30 boundaries for his 222 off 281,
raising the possibility of bringing up a triple century on day three.

Yasir Ali accompanied him nicely with hitting three sweetly-timed
boundaries in his 48 ball-22.

Shuvagata Hom and Mukidul Islam Mugdho claimed one wicket apiece for
Central Zone so far.
