No coronavirus in Bangladesh: Zahid

DHAKA, Jan 31, 2020 (BSS) – Health Minister Zahid Maleque today said no
one in the country has so far been detected with coronavirus and there is
nothing to worry about the virus as the government is fully ready to tackle
the situation.

“The government has been working to take all-out precautionary measures in
this regard to ensure that the virus couldn’t reach the country,” he said at
a press briefing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city.

Airports, land ports and sea ports have been directed to take necessary
measures and scanning machines have been set up at the Hazrat Shahjalal
International Airport and others have received handheld scanning machines.

All civil surgeons have been directed to arrange treatment at their
respective hospitals. Meanwhile, Kurmitola General Hospital and Infectious
Diseases Hospital in Dhaka have been asked to take special measures for
providing treatments to anyone who infected by the coronavirus.

A total of 361 Bangladeshis who are now stranded in Wuhan have been
registered and showing willingness to return home. Among them, there are
19 families with 18 children and two infants.” he told reporters at a joint
press briefing with Health Minister Zahid Maleque at Hazrat Shahjalal
International Airport (HSIA) here.

“The returnee Bangladeshis will be sent to Ashkona Hajj camp directly from
the Airport to be quarantine for next 14 days,” he said adding, “Those who
are coming are not sick but we don’t want to take any risk.”

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Disaster Management
and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman, Secretary of Health Ministry M Asadul Islam,
Director General for Health Services Professor Abul Kalam Azad were present,
among others, during the briefing.
