DMP takes 4-tier security for Ekushey book fair

DHAKA, Jan 30, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Shafiqul Islam today said they have taken four-tier foolproof security likewise the previous years ahead of the month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair beginning from February 2.

“We have taken 4-tier security with deployment of law enforcers in a large number and installing necessary number of closed circuit camera televisions (CCTVs) in and around of the venues of the book fair at Bangla Academy and Suhrawardi Uddan,” he told journalists after inspecting the overall security arrangement.

As part of the security arrangement, TSC to Doel Chattar areas have been brought under CCTV coverage along with installing archways in entry and exit gates at Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan, he informed.

“Specialized police personnel in uniform and plain cloth, City Special Branch (City SB) and bomb disposal unit have been kept ready to face any untoward situation,” he said, adding that adequate power supply will be available in the venues while law enforcers have been entrusted with capturing snatchers.

“None would be allowed to enter the venues without going through search as we are committed to ensure security of the book lovers,” he added.

Asked about any threat, the DMP commissioner said, “There is no specific threat as adequate number of policemen is discharging their duties during the ongoing election campaigns for Dhaka City Corporations’ Polls to be held on Saturday next.”

Bangla Academy Surveillance Team will be in the field to take measures in case of selling any book that can hurt the religious sentiment while intelligence vigilance has been intensified in the venue area to this respect.
