Proficient in English stressed to get jobs

KURIGRAM, Jan 29, 2020 (BSS) – Terming English as a crucial medium for international communication, media and internet, speakers at a job fair here today underscored the need for becoming proficient in an additional language, especially in English, as it helps youths to get jobs.

“It is important to learn an additional language, preferably English. It is
expedient to secure employment if young people have skill and language
proficiency,” said Prof Mirza Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Vice Principal of
Kurigram Government College, while taking part in the discussion coinciding with a job fair.

CARE Bangladesh, organised a day-long job fair in Kurigram today, where CARE’ Strengthening Household Ability to Respond to Development Opportunities (SHOUHARDO) III with support from MJSKS and Technical Training Centre, Kurigram facilitated job opportunity for skilled youths, said a press release. Kurigram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sultana Pervin was present as the chief guest on the occasion. Over 400 young male and female skilled youths from different corners of Kurigram joined the fair.

Chief of Party of SHOUHARDO Ishrat Shabnam said chain of poverty can be better tackled if it is addressed with the right mix of skill, vision and
initiative.

“The youth are being facilitated to set their vision and to chase the
vision with the right skill. At the same time, SHOUHARDOIII is building a
linkage between the potential employer and potential employee” Ishrat said while delivering the welcome speech.

Special guests were Mirza Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Vice Principal of Kurigram Government College and Advocate Ahsan Habib Nilu, President of Kurigram Press Club.

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sultana Pervin said over 65 percent of
the population is from working age, between 15 and 64, which offers an
opportunity of accelerated economic growth, which is called the demographic
dividend.

The government is trying to secure employment for a huge number of young
people, but coordinated support from non-government and companies are
required as well, she added. Young aspirants will have the opportunity to
submit resume and talk with potential employers in the fair.

PRAN-RFL Group, Ayesha Abed Foundation, Bdjobs and Dutch-Bangla Bank
Limited took part in the job fair, among others, the release added.
