Islamic scholars urged to work against militancy, narcotic

MAGURA, June 9, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a meeting today here urged the Islamic scholars to a play vital role to prevent terrorism and militancy and increase anti-narcotic awareness.

They made the plea at a view exchange meeting titled ‘Role of Alem-Ulama in Preventing Terrorism, Militancy and Increasing Anti-narcotic Awareness and Implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’ held at Asaduzzaman Auditorium in the town.

Magura district Islamic Foundation (IF) organized the meeting while IF Director General Shamim Muhammad Afzal addressed it as the chief guest.

Md Saifuzzaman Shekhor, assistant personal secretary (APS-2) to the Prime Minister, addressed the meeting as the main speaker. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the district Azmul Haque was in the chair.

Addressing the meeting, Saifuzzaman said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared zero tolerance against drug abuse.

Terming the drug abuse as an awful problem, he said, “The anti-narcotic drives will continue until the menace ends”.

He urged the Islamic scholars to a play vital role to get rid of the problem.

In his address, Afzal said as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s direction, 560 model mosques will be set up at district and upazila levels across the country in phases.

Magura district Superintendent of Police (SP) Khan Mohammad Rejwan and Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation, Magura Akramul Haque spoke in the meeting, among others.
