Quota for Hajj pilgrims raises under govt management: minister

JAMALPUR, Jan 28, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah today urged the officials of district administration and Islamic Foundation and media people to make campaign on Hajj as more 10,000 pilgrims under government management would be able perform hajj this year.

“The Hajj quota under government management has been increased from 7,198 to 17,198 and general hajj pilgrims of Bangladesh are not well-aware of the government’s package facilities . . . you have to inform the people about this,” the state minister told a view-exchange meeting with journalists and local officials here.

He said that this year a total of 1,37,198 people will be able to perform hajj.

The state minister also visited the progress of different under-construction mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers here as part of the ongoing construction works of some 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers across the country designed by the incumbent government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Referring to the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Abdullah said these mosques and Islamic cultural centers would help to promote the Islamic cultures and values in the days to come.

Local lawmakers Mirza Azam, Additional Secretary of Religious Ministry AMB Amin Ullah Nuri, Deputy Commissioner of Jamalpur District Enamul Haque, Police Super Basir Uddin, Deputy Director of Jamalpur IF M Abdur Razzak and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Abul Hossain, among others, accompanied the state minister.
