SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 28, 2020 (BSS) – Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon today said thegovernmenthas taken initiative for construction of railway in Barishal in order to bring the districtunder railway network.
“The government has taken initiative for building railway in Barishal district as the
vernment hasalready finalized the alignment of the project,” said the minister while responding a star-markedquestion made by Jatiya Party lawmaker Nasrin Jahan Ratna of Barishal-6 in the House here.
The feasibility study is now going on in the field level which was approved by the Planning Ministry on October 9 in 2016, he said, adding that “the progress of the feasibility study is almost 51 per cent.”
A contact has already been signed with the consulting company on June 19, 2018 and the alignment of the project has been finalized on December in 2019, said the minister.
In the district, the railway will be constructed from Bangha-Tekerhat-Madaripur-Kalkini-Gouranadi-Aghaijara-Ujirpur-Barishal Airport-Barishal-Bakerganj-Lebukhali-Patuakhali Sadar-Kukua-Amtali-Payra Port to Payra port yard.
