12 to die for killing college student in Tangail

TANGAIL, Aug 8, 2017 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced 12 persons to death for killing a college student at Bhalkutia village under Bhuapur upazila of the district three years back.

Special Judge Waheduzzaman Shikder of Special Judge Court in Tangail delivered the verdict this noon.

The convicts are: Mozid, Abdul Mazid, Saidul, Maznu, Abdul Momin, Nizam Pramanik, Abu Bakar, Hanu, Nurul Islam, Babu, Miiraj Pramanik and Abdul Wahab. All are residents of the same upazila.

Among the 12 convicts, four remained absconding.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that following previous enmity over land dispute, the convicted persons entered the house of Lal Miah at the village in the morning on April 13, 2014 and hacked his son Rabiul Islam Rajan, 24, with sharp weapons. Seriously injured, Rajan was immediately rushed to the Bhuapur Upazila Health Complex. Later he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On the next day, Rajan’s father Lal Miah filed a murder case with Bhuapur Police Station accusing 18 people in this regard. After investigation, police pressed charges against the 12.

After examining all the records and witnesses, the Judge handed down the verdict.
