SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 23, 2020 (BSS) – The parliamentary standing committee report on the Voter List (Amendment) Bill, 2020 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Matin Khasru placed the report in the House with a recommendation of its passage in an amended form with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Placing the report in the parliament, Khasru said committee members Law, Justice and
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, Md Shamsul Haque Tuku, Md Abdul Majid Khan,
Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker, Gloria Jharna Sarker and Rumeen Farhana took part in the committee
meeting in scrutinizing the bill.

Earlier, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq placed the bill in the
parliament on January 20.

According to the bill, the amendment has been made to the existing ‘Voter List Act, 2009’ to
increase the timeframe as it is difficult to update the voter list within the existing 29 days from
January 2 to January 31.

As the Cabinet Division decided to observe March 2 as the National Voters’ Day, it was
proposed in the bill that the timeframe for updating the voter list from ‘January 2 to January 31’
will be replaced by the timeframe from ‘January 2 to March 2’.
