40,000 law enforcers to be deployed during city polls

DHAKA, Jan 22, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 40,000 law enforcers will be deployed during the Dhaka city corporations’ polls on February 1 for maintaining law and order, Senior Secretary of election Commission Md Alamgir said here today.

He came up with the remark after emerging from a meeting held at Nirbachon Bhaban in city’s Agargaon with law enforcers for peaceful holding of Dhaka city corporation’s polls.

With Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair, the meeting was attended, among others, by Election Commissioners Mahabub Talukder, Rafiqul Islam and Kabita Khanam and senior officials of the law enforcement agencies including Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary.

The EC secretary said 16 law enforcers will guard each polling station. This team will be comprised of four policemen, two Ansar members and 10 Ansar-VDP members.

He also said Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be engaged along with police to maintain the overall law and order during the polls.

The law enforcement agencies along with judicial magistrates will start their duties two days before the polling day.
