DHAKA, Jan 21, 2020 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Anisul Huq today said the recent verdicts in the cases lodged over
2001 CPB rally bomb attack and 1988 Chattogram Laldighi Maidan Awami League
rally attack, have once again proved the fact that culture of impunity in the
country is a thing of past now.

“No one is above law, no matter how powerful they are. As long as Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina is in power, every crime, every irregularity will be
prosecuted. Some might have delusion that they will be out of law’s reach for
eternity, but they have to come under justice today or tomorrow,” he said.

The law minister said these while handing over cheques of Taka 30 lakh
to the leaders of Pabna District Bar Association for buying books, at his
secretariat office this afternoon. Law and Justice Division secretary Golam
Sarwar and joint secretary Bikash Kumar Saha, were present on the occasion,
among others.

While talking about bail of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Law
Minister Anisul Huq said she is serving jail sentenced after getting
convicted and sentenced by courts.

“The apex court has turned down her bail plea. So there is nothing for
the government to do and it is not thinking about this also. The said cases
are not a political one as those were lodged during the tenure of caretaker
government,” he added.
