Ismat Ara’s biggest virtue was honesty, patriotism: PM

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 21, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina today paid rich tributes to Awami League lawmaker and former state minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique, saying that her (Ismat Ara) biggest virtue was honesty, sincerity and patriotism.

“Ismat Ara used to work with outstanding sincerity, honesty and patriotism which were her biggest virtues,” she said while participating in a discussion on a condolence motion on the death of Ismat Ara Sadique in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Ismat Ara Sadique, who was elected the MP from Jashore-6 constituency, died at a hospital in Dhaka this morning at the age of 77.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in the House at the beginning of the day’s business.

The Leader of the House said Ismat Ara Sadique worked with very smoothly and finest way and she made her ministry dynamic through her works.

Sheikh Hasina said Ismat Ara Sadique enlightened her constituency Keshabpur of Jashore by making massive development.

“She (Ismat Ara) was very sincere in the uplift of her constituency,” she said, adding: “I could not think she will go suddenly in this way.”

The prime minister said Ismat Ara Sadique was once a housewife and involved in various organisations. But she was not so much active in politics at that time.

Sheikh Hasina said when her (Ismat) husband AHSK Sadique joined Awami League in 1992, she also expressed her interest to work for the party.

“From that time both came to me and discussed various issues with me,” she said.

The Leader of the House said, “It’s very unfortunate that we’ve lost four lawmakers one after another within the short span of time.”

The prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family as well as the people of her constituency.
