US envoy expects city polls acceptable

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2020 (BSS) – US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller today expressed his optimism that the elections to Dhaka north and south city corporations would be a free, fair, peaceful and acceptable one.

He said this to journalists after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda at Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon here.

The US envoy said his country will send observers in the Dhaka city elections likewise the last national election to witness the democratic process.

Miller said Bangladeshis are more jovial as regards elections than the US people.

He said the Dhaka city polls will be inclusive one, a good sign for democracy, and added it matters little who wins or who loses.

The US ambassador urged all the voters to come to polling centers to exercise their franchise.

About the EVM, Miller said he was shown the process of using electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the Election Commission (EC) is also showing the voters the process of casting votes through EVMs.
