DHAKA, Jan 20, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today granted four-week
anticipatory bail to Bangla daily Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman in a case
lodged over the death of Dhaka Residential Model School and College student
Naimul Abrar Rahat.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice
AKM Zahirul Huq passed the order after holding hearing on bail pleas of six
persons including Matiur Rahman.

The court also asked him to surrender before the trial court after end of
his bail period and the trail court is asked to consider his bail plea.

The court also asked the law enforcing agencies not to harass or arrest
five other bail petitioners including Prothom Alo deputy editor Anisul Hoque
until framing of charges or submission of police report, whichever comes
earlier.

Rahat, 15, a student of class-nine of Dhaka Residential Model College,
died after getting electrocuted at a programme titled “Ki Ananda”, a function
of the daily Prothom Alo’s magazine for juveniles Kishor Alo, on November 1,
2019.

On November 6, Rahat’s father Md Mojibur Rahman filed the case against
Matiur Rahman. He, in his plea, accused that the death of his son was caused
by the negligence of the organisers.
