Int’l conference on ‘film, media and journalism’ begins

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2020 (BSS) – First BIMSTEC International Conference on film, media and journalism began at Dhaka University (DU) today marking the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The three-day long program titled ‘Film, Media and Journalism Studies Conference-2020’ was inaugurated by DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Akhtaruzzaman at Muzaffar Ahamed Chowdhury Auditorium at Social Science faculty of the university in the morning.

On the occasion, Prof Akhtaruzzaman said, “Mass media and cinema both play pivotal role in the society. This conference will provide a wonderful platform to share experience and knowledge among the researchers of home and abroad.” “I hope this conference will create an outstanding platform to share experiences and knowledge among academicians and students”, said Secretary General of BIMSTEC Ambassador M Shahidul Islam.

Television, Film and Photography Department of DU and Communication and Mass Media Department of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized the conference.

BP Sanjay, former VC of Central University of Tamil Nadu, gave the keynote speech while convener of the conference AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof Sadeka Halim and Chairperson of Television, Film and Photography Department Habiba Rahman spoke, among others.

Canadian Researcher Prof Dr Yuezhi Zhao will present keynote speech in concluding session on the last day. The concluding ceremony of the conference will be held at AIUB on January 21, 2020.
