RANGPUR, Jan 19, 2020 (BSS) – Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) recovered a buried body of abducted person Tossarraf Hossain Popi, 42, from Shyampur Sakoapara village under Badarganj upazila of the district this morning.

The RpMP sources said businessman Tossarraf, a resident of Enayetganj Lane
in Hazaribag of Dhaka city, was abducted nine days ago on January 11 from
Rangpur Central Bus Terminal area in the city.

Victim’s younger sister Sajia Afrin Dolly filed a case in this connection
with Kotwali Thana of RpMP accusing six persons with Rabiul Hossain, a
serving Police Constable at Rangpur Police Training Centre, as the prime
accused, on January 16 last.

Police arrested Constable Rabiul Hossain, his brother-in-law Saiful Islam
and the victim’s servant Bipul Kumar Roy, all are hailing from different
villages in Rangpur, on January 17.

Tossarraf and Rabiul were known to each-other and they had conflicts over
money-related affairs.

“We produced the arrested persons with a remand prayer before a Rangpur
court on January 18 when the court granted five-day police remand,”
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and Additional Deputy Police
Commissioner of RpMP Shahidullah Kowsar said.

During interrogation, the arrested persons admitted their involvement in
abduction of Tossarraf and killing him in a planned way masterminded by
Constable Rabiul following previous enmity over money-related conflicts.

Rabiul admitted that he tactfully abducted Tossarraf after his arrival at
Rangpur from Dhaka on January 11 at about 6 am and took him to the house of
his sister in Shyampur Sakoapara village by a motorcycle.

Later, Tossarraf became unconscious after taking tea given him with
sedative tablets at that house when the arrested persons killed him there as
per a preplanned plot in the morning and buried the body in a nearby
sugarcane field at late night.

“As per confessions of the arrested persons, we recovered the buried body
of Tossarraf from the crop field today,” the IO said, adding that the body
was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy in the
afternoon.

Talking to BSS, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud
said investigation process was continuing and efforts were on to arrest the
other culprits involved in the murder for producing them before the court to
ensure justice.
