KCCI terms proposed budget pro-people, realistic

KHULNA, June 8, 2018 (BSS) – Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI)
in its reaction here last night called the proposed national budget for the
2018-19 fiscal as pro-people, time- befitting and realistic for building a
middle income nation.

After assessment of the proposed budget with the KCCI executive committee
members and directors, its president Kazi Aminul Haque on behalf of the
chamber hailed the proposed budget and suggested for its proper
implementation.

He also praised the proposed budget to keep allocations for Mega Projects
to enhance GDP growth rate and develop pro-people sectors like health,
education, human resources, electricity, electronics raw material, iron and
steel, construction material, medicine for cancer, poultry industry, kids
food, social safety-net, transportation, communication and ICT.

The KCCI President termed the special initiatives for agriculture, rural
uplift, creation of jobs, attaining self-reliance in coping with climate
change impacts, utilization of external economic opportunities, enhancing
remittance and creating newer export markets as appropriate.

He said enhanced subsidy and incentives in the agriculture sector and
increase taxes for importing rice and maize would be effective in preserving
interests of the farmers and hailed the decision for continuing current tax
facilities on importing essential goods for containing inflation.

Besides, he termed the proposals in the proposed budget for reducing export
taxes on sources for the hybrid vehicles, machineries of human haulers, gas
cylinders for cars, frozen foods, jute, leather, vegetables and packed foods
as very realistic.

Haque said exemption of taxes and rebates on imports of computer
machineries, parts and accessories, server rack for cyber security, Wi-Fi,
access point, firewall, finger print and biometric scanners and tax free e-
commerce would further accelerate the process of digitization in building a
middle-income nation.
