Bangladesh safe place for all religions: Abdullah

DHAKA, Jan 17, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Religious Affairs Advocate Sheikh Md Abdullah today vowed to keep up the notion that Bangladesh is a safe place for members of all religions as the Awami League amply nurtures the ideals of pro-liberation force.

“Under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we have been able to establish communal harmony in Bangladesh. We have established the spirit of secularism in the country,” he said.

Abdullah, also Chairman of Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, was talking to journalists after he along with members of the newly formed trustee board of the welfare trust paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his portrait on Dhanmondi road no 32 here.

The state minister said Bangabandhu’s one of the political ideologies was secularism and it was subsequently made one of the four fundamental principles of Bangladesh Constitution.

Abdullah also assured of taking more effective measures for the welfare of Hindu community under the leadership of the newly formed trustee board.

A 21-member new trustee board of Hindu Religious Welfare Trust was formed on Tuesday for a three-year term.

The state minister for religious affairs became the chairman and ministry’s secretary Md Nurul Islam a member of the board ex officio.

Two senior vice-chairmen of the board are Narayan Chandra Chanda, MP (Khuln-5) and Manoranjan Sheel Gopal, MP (Dinajpur-1).
