High yielding BARI mustard makes farmers happy

NARSINGDI, Jan 15, 2020 (BSS) – Farmers have become happy after cultivating high yielding variety BARI mustards on their farming lands including char areas of the district during the last three years.

Mustard fields on the vast tracts of land in the six upazilas of the
districts have already worn eye-catching yellow look with an expectation of bumper production.

Habibur Rahman, a farmer of Adiabad village under Raipura village of the
district, said the cultivation of BARI mustard has gained much popularity
among the farmers of the district as they are getting good production and
also fair prices of the cash crop in recent years.

Narsingdi office of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said farmers
in the district have brought 3,860 hectares of land under cultivation during
the current season with the hope of getting production of 5,800 tonnes of the
crop.

Deputy Director, DAE Narsingdi Shovan Kumar Dhar said farmers have been
given quality seeds, necessary inputs and training on the latest technologies
for achieving good yield of mustard seed.

He underscored the need for using the latest agro-technologies and
disseminating proper knowledge to the farmers for increasing mustard seed to
achieve self-reliance in edible oil to reduce the dependency on import.
