DHAKA, Jan 14, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka University decided to expel 67 students on different charges today.

Of the students, 63 students were expelled on charge of fraudulence in the admission test while four others for possessing illegal arms as well as consuming abusive drugs.

The decision was taken at the disciplinary council meeting of the university with Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair, said DU proctor AKM Golam Rabbani.

The expulsions will be executed after the approval of the Syndicate Committee, said the Proctor, who is also member secretary of the council.

The students, who were expelled on charge of forgery in the intake test, got enrolled in the university from the academic sessions 2012-13 to 2017-18.

The council also recommended expelling two other students for six months on charge of assaulting journalists on the campus while 13 students were temporarily expelled on charges of mugging and consuming drugs.

Earlier on August 6, 2019, the DU authorities suspended 69 students on charge of cheating in admission test and issued a show cause notice asking them to explain their positions over the allegation within seven days.

However, the explanations provided by the accused did not satisfy the authorities and finally they recommended expulsion of 63 students.

Gulam Rabbani said the students used digital devices and got answers from outside of examinations centres during their admission tests.

They also helped others to follow illegal means to get admitted to the university and were involved in question leak, admission forgery, the proctor added.

On June 23 last year, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police pressed charges against 125 people, including 87 students of DU, in a case filed over their alleged involvement in question leaks and cheating in their admission.

The university had earlier expelled 15 students on the same charges.
