One crore saplings to be planted: Shahab

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2020 (BSS) – The government has taken an initiative to plant one crore saplings across the country to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

This was stated by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin while addressing the farewell ceremony of the ministry’s former secretary Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury and welcoming ceremony of new secretary Ziaul Hasan at the ministry’s conference room today, said a press release.

To mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, around one crore saplings will be planted in 4 hundred 82 upazilas of the country on June 5, he commented.

He continued “To check the environment pollution and protect our existence, we need to plant more trees”.

Shahab directed the concerned authorities to take effective measures to enhance the forests of the country, including the protection of the Sundarbans.

Deputy minister of the ministry Habibun Nahar, Chairman of Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) Muhammed Ahsanul Jabbar and Chief Conservator of Forests Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, among others, were present on the occasion.
