Nepal seeks Dhaka’s support for establishing Defense University

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2020 (BSS) – Nepal sought support from Bangladesh for establishing its National Defense University in Kathmandu.

Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Purna Chandra Thapa sought the assistance as he paid a courtesy call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban this evening.

Welcoming the Nepalese Army chief at Bangabhaban, the President said bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Nepal is very excellent now and it is strengthening gradually.

President’s Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin told BSS after the meeting.

Abdul Hamid called for exchanging more high-level visits between the armed forces of Bangladesh and Nepal.

He said such the visits between the two countries would help play a very positive role in strengthening the existing bilateral ties.

“Each year several officers of Nepalese armed forces division take various courses in the National Defense College . . . Both Bangladesh and Nepal would get benefits by exchanging mutual experiences and arranging joint-training programme,” the president added.

In the meeting, General Thapa informed the President that his country would establish a National Defense University in its capital and sought Bangladesh’s support while the President assured of providing possible help in this connection.

Nepalese Ambassador Dr Bansidhar Mishra, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) Lieutenant General Md Mahfuzur Rahman and secretaries concerned to the President, among others, were present on the occasion.
