Nasim urges EC to allow public representatives in election campaign
DHAKA, Jan 6, 2020 (BSS)- Awami League Presidium Member and 14-Party Alliance Spokesperson Mohammad Nasim today urged the Election commission (EC) to allow public representatives in carrying out election campaign by amending the concerned election law.
“Why a MP who is also a party leader cannot take part in election campaign . . . it cannot happen. Such an unequal law cannot ensure level-playing field for all. We must be allowed to carry out polls campaign by amending this law,” said Nasim while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with newly elected committee of Dhaka city unit of Bangladesh Workers Party (BWP) here today.
“I am presidium member of Awami League but I would not be able to take part in election campaign. But BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Moudud Ahmed would be able to conduct election campaign . . . how it would be a level-playing field. The concerned polls law must be amended to ensure equal opportunity for all,” said Nasim.
About BNP’s negative publicity about the use of EVMs in the city polls, he said voting had taken place in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at many places and there was also no allegation of irregularities.
Nasim urged the EC to play a strong role in holding the city corporation polls neutral and fair manner. Conspiracy is going on because BNP came to power time and again through conspiracy, he said and urged the EC to hold the city corporation elections peacefully and neutrally.
BWP’s Dhaka city unit president Abul Hossain chaired the programme while Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, Dhaka south city Awami League president Abu Ahmad Mannafi and general secretary Humayun Kabir, among others, spoke at the meeting.
BWP president Rashed Khan Menon said conspiracy is going on as Jamaat-e-Islami is secretly reorganizing itself and urged all to remain united to face the conspirators.
