DU student raped in Kurmitola, case filed
DHAKA, Jan 6, 2020 (BSS)- A case was filed with Cantonment Police Station
today in connection with the rape of a Dhaka University (DU) student.
“Victims’ father filed a case (No. 6) with the police station this
afternoon,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station Md Sahanur
confirmed BSS.
DU administration filed another complaint with Shahbagh Police Station
which was forwarded to the respective (Cantonment) police station, said Abul
Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh police station.
A second-year student of DU was allegedly tortured and raped by
unidentified man or men in the capital’s Kurmitola area on Sunday night.
“We have suspected that a single person was involved in the rape case and
we are trying to arrest him,” said Sudipto Kumar Chakrabarty, deputy police
commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in Gulsan zone.
A seven-member medical board, headed by Gynecology Prof Salma Rouf, has
been formed to ensure better treatment of the victim, said DMCH Director Brig
Gen AKM Nasiruddin.
Being informed, her fellow students brought her to Dhaka Medical College
Hospital (DMCH) around midnight and admitted her at the hospital’s One Stop
Crisis Centre, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
The incident happened while she was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a
friend’s place in Khilkhet’s Shewra area after getting down from a university
bus around 7:30 pm, her fellow classmates said.
Soon after getting down from the bus, some unknown persons grabbed her
from behind, gagged and brought her to a secret place nearby where she became
unconscious. She was raped and physically tortured there, they said quoting
the victim.
They also said that the girl regained her consciousness around 10pm and
discovered herself in an isolated place. Later, she hired a CNG-run auto-
rickshaw and went to her friend’s house.
