Poush Mela being celebrated at Bangla Academy

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2020 (BSS) – The three-day long Poush Mela, a festival of welcoming the winter season, is being celebrated on the Bangla Academy premises that began yesterday.

People from all walks of life are joining the fair in a festive mode. They are having taste of different foods and cakes, listen songs as well as buying handicrafts.

A daylong cultural event, including solo performance, group dance and recitation were arranged on the opening day of the fair. Traditional winter foods and cakes, and artifacts of the country’s rural cottage industry are being displayed in the fair.

“Visitors are having taste of different types of cakes including hot and ready cakes”, said Biswajit Ray, general secretary of the Poush Mela Udjapon Parishad (PMUP).

Around 45 stalls were set up in the fair which remained open every day from 8am to 8pm, he added.

PMUP with the assistance of Cultural Affairs Ministry, Bangla Academy and Hamdard Bangladesh arranged the fair which will end on January 6 (Monday).

Artistes came from different districts performed songs on the second consecutive day.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid on Saturday morning inaugurated the fair. Director general of Bangla Academy Habibullah Siraji, president of Gono Sangeet Fakir Alamgir were present on the occasion with president of Sommilito Sangskritik Jote Golam Kuddus in the chair.
