DHAKA, Jan 4, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court here today placed Md Faisal Hossain, the gang leader of a cycle extorting money from people with assurance of getting entry into the Ganabahban, on one-day remand.

Investigation officer (IO) and sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Sujan Ul Islam produced Faisal before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

Allowing the police plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter placed him on one-day remand.

Earlier, the police personnel arrested Faisal, 34, from the city’s Pallabi area on Friday night and lodged a case over extorting huge money from the people giving them assurance of getting their entries into the Prime Minister’s official Ganabahban residence for meeting with the premier.

He hailed from Banni village under Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj district.

According to sources, on December 23 last year, the cycle made a deal of Taka 700,000 with Shamsunnahar, wife of former mayor of Jhalokati Afzal Hossain, for getting entry into the Ganabhaban to meet the Prime Minister.

The gang took away Taka 180,000 from Shamsunnahar on December 23, 2019 and January 2 this year to this end.

It also took away her ornaments before entering the Ganabhaban on January 2.
