Indira inaugurates freedom fighters memorial in Gozaria

DHAKA, Dec 26, 2019 (BSS) – A freedom fighters’ memorial was inaugurated today at Bhaberchar on Dhaka-Chattagram highway in Munshiganj in memory of 12 freedom fighters, who were killed by the Pakistani occupation forces on December 7, 1971.

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira opened the memorial, saying that the government has embarked on a plan to preserve the graves and mass graves of the freedom fighters.

The twelve freedom fighters led by Motiur Rahman Jahangir had to sacrifice their lives in a frontal battle between them and the Pakistani forces. Motiur was leading an offensive to blow up the Eidgah Bridge in Bhaberchar.

Indira said the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators had brutally killed 360 innocent people of 10 villages in Gazaria upazila on May 9, 1971, creating an episode of barbaric killing.

Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj Md Moniruzzaman Talukdar presided over the meeting while Women and Children Affairs Secretary Kamrun Nahar, Department of Women Affairs Director General Badrun Nessa, Additional Secretary Farida Parvin, former Director of Open University Hafij Ahmed, among others, were present at the meeting.

Later, Indira inaugurated the Shaheed Motiur Rahman Jahangir Sriti Footbal Tournament in Gozaria.
