President stresses people’s right to information

DHAKA, June 6, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked all concerned of the Information Commission (IC) to be more active so that people of all strata from the grassroots can get their desired information.

“People’s fundamental right is to get the information . . . Be more active so that people can get the information as per their demands,” the President said while a delegation of the Information Commission, led by Chief Information Commissioner Mortuza Ahmed, submitted its annual report 2017 to him at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.

Briefing reporters, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said the delegation apprised the President of various activities coinciding with the awareness campaign of the Commission involving people of the grassroots level, their representatives, officials and employees.

Accepting the report, President Hamid said if the common people become more aware of things, they will show their keen interest to apply their right to information.

“Corruption will be removed significantly from the society, if the Right to Information Act (RTA) can be executed,” the President observed.

The other members of the delegation were Information Commissioners Nepal Chandra Sarker and Suraiya Begum and IC Secretary Muhibul Hossain.

Later, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Prof Farzana Islam called on the President here and apprised him of different academic and administrative activities of the university.

During the meeting, President Hamid, also the chancellor of the university, asked the VC to give priority to the university’s research works.

Secretaries concerned to the President were also present during the meetings.
