Hasan hailed for becoming AL joint general secretary

DHAKA, Dec 21, 2019 (BSS) – Political leaders, government officials, journalists as well as the general people today greeted Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on his election as Awami League (AL) joint general secretary.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hassan and Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmud and information ministry officials greeted Dr Hasan by presenting bouquets at the information minister’s residence in the city’s Minto road area.

Besides, senior leaders of Chattogram North District unit of AL Shahajahan Shikder, Iftekhar Hossain Babul, Zasim Uddin, Bedarul Alam Chowdhury Bedar and AL leaders at different levels also greeted Dr Hasan with bouquets on his election to the party’s joint general secretary post.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has elected me as AL joint general secretary. I will try to perform the duty vested by the premier with honesty and sincerity at cost of my last drop of blood”.

Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, the information minister said, “Actually the Prime Minister herself picked me from just a worker and gave me different important tasks of the party”.

Terming Sheikh Hasina and Awami League as identical, he said Sheikh Hasina took the charge as the party chief in 1981 when the AL was divided and split after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15 in 1975.

Father of the Nation had a dream of building developed and prosperous Bangladesh, the AL joint general secretary said, adding but he was assassinated only after three and half years of the country’s independence.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Bangabandhu dreamt country has forwarded much, he said.

Earlier, Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Dr Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim were elected joint general secretaries of the AL through the party’s two-day 21st national council ended today at the auditorium of Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) following the electing leadership for the next three years.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was re-elected the party president for ninth consecutive time and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was re-elected the general secretary for second consecutive time through the council.

Dr Hasan, who was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) from Chattogram-7 constituency for the third consecutive time, was serving the AL as publicity and publication secretary till the date of his election as joint general secretary.

Earlier, he also served the party as environment affairs secretary as the youngest secretariat member of AL.
