19th span of Padma Bridge installed

MUNSHIGANJ, Dec 18, 2019 (BSS)- The 19th span of the much-awaited Padma
Bridge has been successfully installed on the 21st and 22nd pillars near
Janjira point of the district this afternoon.

“With the installation of ‘4-C’ (19th span) span, the construction work of
about 2,850 meters of main structure of the bridge has now been visible,
Assistant Engineer Humayun Kabir confirmed.

He said the 150ft long, 3,140 ton span was carried by the biggest crane
Tian-E from the construction yard-1 where it was kept temporarily. Then it
was installed on the 21-22 number pillars permanently around 1:55 pm today.

According to the official, a total of 19 spans out of 33 have already been
installed. Five more spans are ready, of which one is expected to be
installed by the end of this month on 18th and 19th pillars of the bridge at
the Mawa point.

“We are expected to be installed four more spans in January, 2020 and the
main structure of the mega bridge will be visible,” Humayun said, adding that
almost all the challenging tasks of the bridge have been done.

Besides installation of the spans, the construction work of roadway slabs
and railway slabs is also progressing as scheduled, he said.

The 6.15km long two storied bridge is being constructed of steel and
concrete while the main bridge is being constructed by China Railway Major
Bridge Engineering group company limited.
