DPE implements infrastructure projects in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, June 6, 2018 (BSS) – Department of Primary Education (DPE) has
been implementing various infrastructure development projects worth around
Taka 540.20 crore in eight districts under Rajshahi division.

Works of four of the major projects were completed at an estimated cost
of Taka 414.37 crore during the last five fiscal years. Implementation of
four others projects are ongoing at the cost of Taka 125.83 crore.

Abul Khayer, Divisional Deputy Director of DPE, said Local Government
Engineering Department (LGED) supervise and monitor the field-level
implementation works in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Chapainawabgonj, Natore, Pabna,
Sirajgonj, Bogra and Joypurhat districts.

He said 1,273 primary schools were either constructed or reconstructed
while 803 others repaired and renovated at cost of around Taka 402.45 crore
till June last.

Renovation and repairing works of eight district primary education
offices, as well as vertical extension, renovation and maintenance works of
55 upazila education office buildings were completed with cost of around Taka
10.98 crore.

Ten primary teachers’ institutes and 64 upazila resource centres were
renovated, repaired and furnished at the cost of Taka 94.62 lakh.

Currently, construction and reconstruction works of 101 schools and
repairing and renovation works of 1,420 other schools are progressing fast
with an estimated cost of around Taka 112.63 crore.

Vertical extension, renovation and repairing works of six upazila
education offices and maintenance works of two district primary education
offices are underway with the cost of Taka 1.56 crore.

Besides, construction of a multipurpose auditorium in Rajshahi Primary
Teachers Institute (PTI), renovation and repairing works of two other PTIs
are going on at the cost of Taka 11.64 crore. The initiative will supplement
the national efforts of boosting teachers’ competence.

Abul Khayer said 21 schools including 14 in Sirajgonj and four in Bogra
were devoured by the 2017’s river erosion. Need-based steps should be taken
to reinstate those to any of the respective nearby school less populated area
through adopting special project.
