Martyred Intellectuals Day observed in C’nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Dec 15, 2019 (BSS) – People from all walks of life here
on Saturday observed the ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ paying rich tributes to
the intellectuals who were brutally killed by the Pakistan occupation forces
and their local collaborators at the fag-end of the country’s Liberation War
in 1971.

The observance began through placing wreaths at the monuments of the
martyrs at Baliadighi under Shibganj upazil, hoisting of the black flags and
national flag at half-mast atop all public and private buildings.

A discussion meeting arranged by the district administration was also
held at Nawabganj Government College premises in the evening with deputy
commissioner AZM Nurul Hoque in the chair.

Lawmaker of Chapainawabganj-1 (Shibganj) constituency Dr Shamil Uddin
Ahmed Shimul attended the programme as the chief guest.

Among others, superintendent of police TM Mozahedul Islam, principal of
Nawabganj Government College Professor Dr. Shankar Kumar Kundu, deputy
director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Manzurul Huda,
additional district magistrate Debendranath Orao and president of
Chapainawabganj Bar Association freedom fighter Advocate Abdus Samad attended
it as special guests.

Besides, Exim Bank Agricultural University Bangladesh, Balugram Adarsha
College and other educational institutions arranged discussion meetings and
doa mahfil.
