DHAKA, June 5, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina does politics for the betterment of the next generation.

“We have to continue our uncompromising struggle against drug abuse to save the young generation from this menace,” he said, addressing a seminar marking World Environment Day at the National Museum at Shahbagh here.

Quader said the present government will continue its war on drug abuse to save the youths from ruination as they are the driving force to build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Awami League (AL)’s forests and environment affairs sub-committee organized the seminar with its chairman Professor Bazlul Haque Khandker in the chair.

Dhaka University Earth and Environment Sciences Faculty Dean Professor ASM Maksud Kamal presented a keynote paper in the seminar.

Awami League presidium member Dr Abdur Razzak, joint general secretary Abdur Rahman, Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, DU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Nasreen Ahmad, AL Forests and Environment Secretary Delwar Hossain, Jatiya Press Club president Muhammed Shafiqur Rahman, noted environmentalist Dr Atiq Rahman, DU Geography and Environment Department Chairperson Dr Hafiza Khatun and Professor of DU International Relations Department Dr Delwar Hossain, among others, addressed the seminar.

Pointing to BNP, Quader said those, who are shading crocodile tears against the drive against drugs, never talk about curbing drug abuse to save the youths.

He urged the political parties to come forward to play a responsible role by raising their voice against drug abuse to save the next generation.

Referring to Teknaf municipality councilor Ekramul Haque’s death in the ongoing anti-drug drive, Quader said if he is found innocent, actions will be taken against the responsible persons.
