FFs reminisce nightmarish episodes of war of liberation

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 13, 2019 (BSS) – Tears rolled down the cheeks of the listeners, including students, youths and juveniles as freedom fighters reminisced the episodes of War of Liberation by recalling the brutal acts that freedom-loving people had to endure.

The emotion-choked audiences listened stories of the freedom fighters with rapt attention as they were psyched to develop hatred in them against the occupation Pakistani forces and their local collaborators- Rajakar, Al-badrs and Al-shams who had killed millions of Bangalees and the freedom fighters as well.

The freedom fighters became emotional while describing the acts of barbaric tortures and killings during the War of Liberation by the occupation forces and their local cohorts.

The freedom fighters described that the last three days of the final victory were penetrating, fearful and panicky that pervaded Chattogram city and its adjoining areas.

Sensing their imminent defeat, the behaviour of occupation Pakistani forces likened to mad dogs, they added.

They carried out arson attacks, snatched away foods from every house, shops and offices in Chattogram as their supply chain including arms, ammunitions and foods were totally destroyed by the joint forces, the freedom fighters said.

A sense of pathos and sordidness characterized the ’roundtable on last three days ahead of victory, how was Chattogram’ arranged by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Chattogram Bureau at Chattogram Press Club auditorium this noon.

City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin inaugurated the discussion as chief guest.

Eleven noted freedom fighters, including commanders and deputy commanders of country’s War of Liberation participated in the round-table discussion.

Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Mohammad Haris, ABM Kalequzzaman Dudul, Abu Sayeed Sardar, Jahangir Chowdhury, Prof Moinuddin, Ferdous Hafiz Khan, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Mohammad Shahabuddin, Mozaffar Ahmed and Manzurul Alam Manju spoke, among others, on the occasion. In his speech, Nasir paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled the memories of the War of Liberation.

He elaborately described the assassination of Bangabandhu by the anti-liberation cliques in 1975.

Nasir urged the people, irrespective of caste and creed, to uphold the spirit of Liberation War and to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He also expressed gratitude to the organizers of the roundtable terming it as a praiseworthy effort.

Freedom fighter Manzoor Alam Manzo said he joined the Liberation War at the early age of 15 and went to Indian State of Tripura for training on war. On last days of the liberation war, he entered into Bangladesh through Ramgar border and directly came to Chattogram Circuit House on December 16.

Manzoor said he witnessed the hoisting of Bangladesh flag atop the Circuit House on December 16.

Commander Muzaffar Ahmed recalled the time when he was leaving his mother for joining the War of Liberation.

He called upon the world community to start trial of the Pak army officers who committed genocide in the then East Pakistan.

Freedom fighters Rezaul Karim Chowdhury narrated the supreme sacrifice of Bangabandhu and the freedom fighters.

Karim came to know that Bhatiary was liberated on December 14. He also recalled memories of last three days before the Victory Day.

Ferdous Hafiz Khan Rumu, commander of Raozan, said he along with 20 other associates conducted attack into the Madunaghat camp where a number of Pak forces were killed. One of their associates Nazim was killed in the attack, he said.

FF commander Professor Moinuddin described the scenarios of last three days of the War Of Liberation. His joy new no bound as he heard the declaration of victory on December 15.

District commander of Muktijudda Command of Chattogram Mohammad Shahabuddin recalled the contributions of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Shahabuddin said he joined the war at the very beginning and actively participated in the Belonia battle against Pak army.

Shahabuddin had to witness dead bodies scattered here and there on the last days. Fear and happiness paradoxically mingled in my mind, he said.

Valiant freedom fighter ABM Khaleuzzaman Dadul recalled the beginning of the liberation war from Laldighi Maidan.

Another commander of BLA Abu Sayeed Sardar who conducted the resistance war in Agrabad, Pahartali areas said Chattogram was fully freed in the morning of December 17.

Commander of Kadamtali and Naval scout Jahangir Chowdhury said the contribution of Abu Sayeed family to the War of Liberation was remarkable.

The veteran elderly FF commander Haris Chowdhury described his engagement with the BLF and Mukti Bahini.

Chairman of Bangladesh liberation War Research centre Muktijuddah Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman said during the War of Liberation he conducted a number of attacks in naval areas of Chattogram.

Kalim Sarwar, Bureau Chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), moderated the round table discussion.

The mayor handed over bouquets to the freedom fighters.
