Peace culture resolution adopted at UNGA

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Rabab Fatima has urged all the UN member countries and concerned participants for taking forward the ‘peace culture’ throughout the world as the ‘peace culture’ resolution was unanimously adopted at the UN general assembly.

On behalf of Bangladesh, Rabab Fatima also Bangladesh Envoy to the UN, moved the resolution at the United Nations in New York on Thursday.

Bangladesh is presenting the resolution continuously for the last 20 years since 1999, according to an official release received here today.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the champion of people’s empowerment and peace culture”, she said while presenting the resolution at the UN session.

On September 13, 1999, the UN unanimously had been adopted the resolution for the first time when the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came to power.

Since then the resolution is being presented by Bangladesh every year and it has been adopted unanimously at the UN general assembly, she added.

Recalling 20 years anniversary of the resolution, Fatima said, “The resolution has recognized the necessities of the peace culture for full and effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.”

The peace culture is a widespread conception which would equally play an effective role to strengthen the message of peace after the implementation of the agenda 2030, the release added.

A total of 126 countries in the world have co-sponsored the resolution. This support is a manifestation of deep confidence to Bangladesh for its contribution to the global peace.
