July-May export earnings witness 6.66pc growth

DHAKA, June 5, 2018 (BSS) – Country’s export earnings in the first eleven months (July-May) of the current fiscal year (FY2018-19) witnessed a 6.66 percent growth fetching $3372.88 crore buoyed by the good performance of garment, jute and jute-made goods and agricultural products.

The single-month export performance for May was 9 percent higher with $332.24 crore. Export earning in May of last fiscal year (FY17) was $304.76 crore.

According to the figures of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) for the July-May period of the current fiscal, knitwear export maintained its positive trend fetching $1, 398.11 crore, which showed a 11.48 percent growth over the same period of the last fiscal while woven garment accounted for $1,418.85 million having a growth of 8.15 percent.

The export of agricultural products witnessed an 18.7 percent growth during the period as the country exported agricultural products worth $60.90 crore.

The export of jute and jute goods maintained their positive trend during the July-May period of the current fiscal fetching $96.69 crore, registering 7.0 percent growth.

During the eleven-month period, the export of home textiles fetched $82.30 crore with a healthy growth of 11.67 percent, while export of leather and leather products witnessed a fall as the country exported these products worth $112.36 crore.
