DHAKA, June 5, 2018 (BSS) – The 7th death anniversary of Bengali pop
music legend Azam Khan, popularly known as ‘Pop Guru’ was observed today with
due respect.
To mark the day, fans, well wishers and relatives paid rich tributes to
his grave while milad and doa was offered in a familial manner.
Paying tributes to Khan, singer Fakir Alamgir told BSS that Azam Khan was
an extraordinary talented singer who has a lot of popular songs which
enthralled hearts of thousands of fans.
“Legendary singer Azam Khan had created a new dimension in the arena of
Bangla music,” he said, adding that Khan would ever remember in the heart of
music lovers.
Television channels are airing special programmes in memory of Khan.
Mahbubul Haque Khan, nick named Azam Khan, was born on February 28 in
1950 at Azimpur Colony and brought up at his Kamalapur ancestral residence.
Azam Khan was third among four brothers and two sisters. His father was
Mohammad Aftab Uddin Khan and mother Jobeda Khanam.
He had fought valiantly against the Pakistani occupation forces during
country’s 1971 Liberation War.
He formed a brand of music after the independence. He introduced a new
trend of music in the country. His songs deal with love and humanity, touch
souls of the people.
Azam Khan’s popular songs include ‘Ore Saleka, Ore Maleka’, ‘Jibone
Kichhu Pabona Re’, ‘Ami Jare Chaire’, ‘Ashi Ashi Bole Tumi’, ‘Obhimani’,
‘Rail Liner Oi Bostite’, and ‘Hei Allah, Hei Allah Re’. His first television
concert was aired in 1972 on Bangladesh Television (BTV).
Azam Khan died of cancer June 5 in 2011 at the age of 61.
