‘Rokeya perfectly realised essence of female education’

RANGPUR, Dec 12, 2019 (BSS) – Officials, academics and politicians at a
discussion have said Begum Rokeya perfectly realised the absolute essence of
female education for renaissance, socio-economic and political empowerment of
womenfolk.

They especially mentioned that the vision, philosophy, ideals, thoughts
and conscience of Rokeya are playing a crucial role in making policy for time
befitting female education and equal women rights even in the present era of
science and technology.

They viewed this at the discussion organised on the concluding function
of the three-day observance programs of Rokeya Day-2019 at Begum Rokeya’s
birthplace village of Pairaband in Mithapukur upazila of the district on
Wednesday night.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam attended the discussion as the
chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan in the chair.

President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Additional
Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shukria Pervin and Assistant
Commissioner (Land) of Mithapukur upazila Roksana Begum addressed as special
guests.

Professor of the Department of Bengali of Begum Rokeya University Dr.
Sorifa Salowa Dina presented keynote paper on Begum Rokeya in the discussion.

Assistant Professor of Kawnia Degree College Professor Dr. Swasswato
Bhattacharya and former Regional Director of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh
Betar Monwara Begum participated as discussants.

Dr. Bhattacharya said the ideals and philosophy of Rokeya effectively
inspired the women and society as a whole to ensure female education and
equal women rights.

Terming Begum Rokeya as a great social philosopher and human rights
activist, Monwara Begum said Rokeya’s ideals still show the right path and
direction to the modern society, generations, politicians and policy-makers.

Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said Begum Rokeya for the first time pioneered female
education penetrating the social curses, superstitions and barriers in the
then conservative colonial society during her lifetime.

“Rokeya, pioneer of women renaissance, will ever sparkle as a glittering
star for her unparalleled deeds in the fields of women’s education,
empowerment and establishing their equal rights leading to the present stage
of women advancement,” Ahmed added.

The chief guest said the outstanding contributions of Begum Rokeya have
been strongly influencing and will continue to persuade all concerned,
including politicians and policy-makers, to ensure women education and
empowerment.

He distributed prizes and medals among winners of different competitions
followed by staging of a drama and a colourful cultural function to end the
three-day observance last night in village Pairaband.
