Colourful Victory Day programmes in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Dec 9, 2019 (BSS) – The district administration has taken colourful programmes to celebrate the Victory Day-2019 on December 16 next in the city to pay rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.

The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), freedom fighters, different political parties and their associate bodies, educational institutions, sociocultural and professional organisations have taken elaborate daylong programs.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan said the law enforcement agencies will take adequate security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations of Victory Day in the city as well as in all upazila headquarters in the district.

The observance will begin with 31-gun salutes at Police Lines Ground and placing of wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’ and hoisting of the national flag atop all government, semi-government and private buildings with the sunrise on that day.

Officials of the divisional and district administrations, RpCC, Rangpur Range Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police, district police and former leaders of the district and city unit commands of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad will first place wreaths.

Later, different political parties, including Awami League (AL), and their associate bodies, heads of educational institutions, leaders of different socio-cultural, professional, business and human rights organisations, NGOs and commoners will place wreaths there.

The programs include illumination and decoration of the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings with the national flag and coloured miniature posters and banners.

A huge colourful Victory Day mini-marathon with participation of thousands of people will be brought out from Begum Rokeya University campus to Rangpur Zilla School ground in the city. Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam will hoist the national flag and take salute at march-past and displays by the freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service and civil defense personnel, students, children, jail guards, scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur Stadium.

The District Information Office will screen documentary films on the War of Liberation and Victory Day at Town hall premises in the city.

Improved diets will be served to inmates of hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, shelters of older citizens, day-care and child centres, orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars and vagabond centres.

Special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of martyred of the War of Liberation and martyred intellectuals, progress and welfare of the nation and its people at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worship.

Drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation, discussion, shooting and sports competitions for women, football match, essay competitions and discussions for students, cultural functions and prize giving ceremony will be arranged.

Freedom fighters and relatives of the martyred freedom fighters will be accorded receptions at Town Hall auditorium and the main discussion will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the evening marking the day.
