Nasim seeks more budgetary allocation in health sector

DHAKA, June 4, 2018 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim today called for increasing budgetary allocation for the health sector to ensure improved health care services across the country.

“Though the country has achieved remarkable successes in the health sector over the last few years but we need to do more in this sector for ensuring enhanced health services across the country,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a disseminating workshop titled, “Improving institutional deliveries by strengthening public health facilities for 24/7 services” at a city hotel.

Nasim, referring his last visit to Geneva, Switzerland to attend the 71st conference of World Health Organization (WHO) said, the WHO officials also urged him to increase the allocation for further improvement in the sector.

State Minister of the ministry Zahid Maleque, Secretary Faiz Ahmed, Director General of Health Services Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Director (OPHNE), USAID in Bangladesh Caroll Vasquez and Director General of Directorate General of Family Planning Kazi Mustafa Sarwar spoke, among others. Zahid Maleque said, “We have to ensure skilled manpower and other facilities to improve institutional delivery to reduce maternal death.”

The other speakers said USAID funded ‘MaMoni’ project was playing a vital role in reducing maternal, neonatal and child mortality through the improved utilization of integrated maternal, newborn, and child health, family planning and nutrition services.
